67 parole d'amore
Gino Paoli Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Gino Paoli's 67 parole d'amore are a beautiful ode to love and the many facets of it. The song begins with the line "If I were a memory, I could fill your eyes", suggesting that the singer wishes to be remembered fondly by their lover. The subsequent lines "If I were a smile, I could open your mouth" indicates that the singer aims to bring joy and happiness to their lover's life. The lyrics continue on to express how the singer wishes to be a dream that their lover sees so that they are always in their thoughts, and a cat that sleeps on their heart to signify how they wish to be close to their lover.
The song continues with the singer wishing to be a poet to express the beauty of their lover, comparing their beauty to that of a day invented, a man who cries or a child who sleeps, which are all portrayed as incredibly beautiful. The last line of the song "Beautiful like all the things I don't have" refers to how the singer may not have everything in life, but their lover's beauty is enough for them.
Overall, the lyrics of 67 parole d'amore express the deep love and longing of the singer and their desire to be close to their lover and cherish them always.

Se fossi un ricordo
If I were a memory
Potrei riempirti gli occhi
I could fill your eyes
Se fossi un sorriso
If I were a smile
Aprire la tua bocca
I could open your mouth
E se, se fossi un sogno
And if, if I were a dream
Potrei abitare nel tuo sonno
I could dwell in your sleep
Se fossi un gatto
If I were a cat
Dormire sul tuo cuore
I would sleep on your heart
E se fossi un poeta
And if I were a poet
Potrei dire che sei bella
I could say that you are beautiful
Come un giorno inventato
Like an invented day
Bella come un uomo che piange
Beautiful like a man who cries
Bella come un bimbo che dorme
Beautiful like a sleeping child
Bella come tutte le cose che non ho
Beautiful like all the things I don't have

Se fossi un sogno potrei abitare ne tuo sonno, comunque questa è una versione ricantata, non quella originale del 1977
