In quale giorno, in quale sera, i miei viaggiatori
Quelli che ridono come me
Quelli che piangono come me
Quelli di una guerra che
Non abbiamo vinto mai
Né combattuto mai
Dove sono quelli che ho amato
Quelli di ogni giorno e di ogni ora?
Quelli che mi sapevano senza pensare
Che mi capivano senza parlare
In quale giorno, in quale sera torneranno ancora
In the song "I Viaggiatori" by Gino Paoli, the singer reflects on the absence of the travelers that once brought color and vibrancy to his life. He wonders where they have gone, which unknown roads they have ventured on, and where they have stopped along their journey. Paoli ponders the specific day and evening they departed, the night that hides secrets and lies.
These travelers, who are now distant, represent the passing of time. The singer realizes that his own path no longer aligns with the carefree road of his childhood. He contemplates the days and evenings when his beloved travelers would rest, exhausted, within their dark eyes.
The song touches on shared emotions and experiences. Paoli mentions those who laugh and cry like him, those who belong to a war they never won or fought. These travelers symbolize a collective struggle, a shared history of unfulfilled battles.
Paoli also expresses longing for those he loved, the people who understood him without needing words, who knew him without thinking. He wonders when they will return, the travelers he still loves, yet no longer loves at the same time.
Overall, "I Viaggiatori" reflects the singer's introspection on the departed travelers who brought vitality to his life, the passing of time, and the longing for closeness and connection.

In quale notte, in quale mattino
In quale sera di malinconia
Si son fermati questi viaggiatori?
In quale sonno si sono perduti?
Quelli che mi credevano
Quelli che mi sapevano
Quelli di questa vita che
Non abbiam vinto mai
Né combattuto mai
Perché ho speso così poco tempo
Della mia vita con questi viaggiatori?
Perché con loro non mi son fermato
E sono andato per un’altra strada?
Ricorda di ricordare
Ricordati di me
Ricorda di ricordare
in quale notte, in quale mattino
In quale sera li vedrò tornare?
