The piano playing on here is sublime and turned my head completely when I first heard it when I was 15 and learning to play. I have seen a photo of this gig - it was a grand Bill was playing though it sounds like an upright you'd find in a bar.

Deak you are correct. In 1958 before Kind of Blue was recorded, Evans was seen by many as an unproven newcomer in Miles' band and "whitey" among an all black group.

Bill's solo here is remarkable. He was always under-rated by Columbia executives--not until "Kind of Blue" took off did things change in the minds of these guys. All the members of the sextet on this record but Bill got ovations after their solos--shameful.
