Hurt
Johnny Cash Lyrics

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real

The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair

Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I will keep myself
I would find a way

Lyrics so you can realize that it hits even deeper

“I hurt myself today,
To see if I still feel.
I focus, on the pain,
The only thing that’s real.
The needle tears a hole,
The only familiar sting.
Try to kill it all away,
But I remember everything.

What have I become?
My sweetest friend.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
And you could have it all,
My empire of dirt.
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt.

I wear this crown of thorns,
Upon my liars chair,
Full of broken thoughts,
I cannot repair.
Beneath the stains of time,
The feeling, disappear.
You are someone else
I am still right here.
What have I become?
My sweetest friend.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
And you could have it all,
My empire of dirt.
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt.
If I could start again,
A million miles away,
I would keep myself,

I would find a way.”

No, it is nothing left to archieve.
He has a lot of things money can not buy, some of them he lost (friends, familly)
That money can not buy you really anything is not the big point.

Consider you are big in show buisness, every time you enter stage you are carried by the emotions of thousands of people who want to see YOU.

You create songs or art, and know it means a lot to a lot of people, all that is waaay more than the resulting money

Even if you never become someone anyone listens to if you are very passionate about music by itself and you know it ends here, you can not do it anymore.

I had in my job contact with a lot of people who where not as famous but similar, at the end of there career, and what does hurt them most is that this ends, doing the thing they burn for doing, on top of what everyone who is "normal" experiences with loss of friends and familly.

The things shown represent the memories as much, they are not "worthless" they are a painfull reminder of a times that may not even be happy, but the times there was still something behond the horizon to do and experience.

Life is about what you can do, never about what you have, as long you have food roof and clothing the ammount of money does not make you happy, yes, the ammount of what you can DO makes you happy

@fergus macleod Alright let's let the shit show begin....I didn't say what the writer thinks
I said what he admitted to. Who uses the the word "Shumbles".? Listen buddy boy,
the 83 million hits, is just not this one, there are many more of "Hurt", and by the way 83 million people aren't critics. Sorry to correct you, but Cash specifically wanted to record this song
as his last hurrah, farewell song. In which he succeeded. Maybe he did, as you say, copy
it very closely, but REZNOR gave the ok, and approved it!...Cash "Nailed" it! ( you like that?)
Reznor said If one of my songs are going to be a immortalized who better than Cash!
Believe me Reznor capitalized more on this cover than cash did.
One of Johnny Cash's greatest fears was stealing other people's thunder, which he could
easily do.
What are you going to do to me next, get me for SoundGarden
Let the games begin!?

What is the chief end of man ?

Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

There is a reason why there is something rather than nothing and it is predicated on the uncaused, non contingent, first cause of all contingency...

Closing that piano was like closing his coffin. That is truly one of the most emotional songs ever.

Spin around, like a whirling dervish, clockwise (yin in the southern hemisphere/yang in the northern hemisphere) or counterclockwise (yang in the southern hemisphere/yin in the northern hemisphere). Chant any of these mantras 3 times each while facing east, west, south(in the northern hemisphere) or north(in the southern hemisphere): "iaueh", "ieoah", "aum", and "om". Sleep with your head placed east, west, south(in the northern hemisphere) or north(in the southern hemisphere). Play music tuned to fibonacci sound frequencies: 1(256hz), 3(384hz), 5(320hz), 13(416hz), 21(336hz), 34(544hz), 55(440hz), 89(356hz), 144(288hz), 7(448hz), 33(528hz),54(432hz), 88(352hz).

This is the kind of video where you close the tab and think about what you've seen. And as good as the song is, I credit the editing just as much. There's so much to digest from Johnny Cash's career as a public figure. This is brilliant work. Thank you

Barbara Lowe

I loved Johnny cash he was so cool way better than Elvis Presley I think and he didn't have to shake anything lmao

@Craig Teague what a disrespect on Cash's name . This wasn't ''shity dying wish'' to be relevant. Its about accepting your faith in the end
