1. - Hocus Pocus is a Hip Hop band from Nantes, France. Formed in 1995, their music is a mix of all hip-hop true elements with live instrumentation influenced by jazz, soul & funk music.
This band gives positive vibrations, stepping outside the French rap box. The alchemy between the intruments and the main rapper/DJ/band leader 20Syl, results in a appreciable coherence.
The lineup includes muscians Matthieu Lelièvre (on fender rhodes) Hevré Gogard (on bass), and Antoine Saint-Jean (on drums) with DJ Greem and 20Syl (MC), both members of C2C, the DJ crew, 2003-to-2006 DMC World DJ Team Championships winner.
Often compared with The Roots, Their live performance are often showy, mostly when the standard live instruments communicate with the turntables.

It was very reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts 3 where the main villain was giving a happy ending despite all of the pain and grief he caused while doing absolutely nothing to redeem himself. It was bad in that game and it was bad in this movie.

@just marlen but that in its self broke the vail of her character that she’s just evil. Trying to make you sympathise for an ultimately evil character is a form of redemption. It would’ve been far more in character for her to literally be like “SIKE” and then use her ultimate power but then all that power destroys her and sends her to where her sisters are.

@La Donké I must disagree on that. Some complexity in characters nature doesn't turn the tables. It's certainly not "a form of redemption". I'm completely sure the purpose of this ending wasn't actually to make the audience sympathise for Winifred. At least not the main purpose. Instead it was a message about the human nature. It's a ridiculous and antic thought that people could be100% good or bad. We all have some good and bad in us. Some more good, some more bad - and various things affect on the result, how the person ends up to be.

So. Even the worst criminals can still have a tiny bit of "good" in them. And quite often that is love - caring about someone. There are cold-blooded killers who would do anything for their own family or closest friends. This doesn't make their doings any less evil though. But it does show the complexity of human nature. Things are not black and white.

Lastly, if you pay attention to some scenes in the original movie, you can see Winifred deep down cared for Sarah and Mary, even though she insulted them regularly. Her reacting like "oh well, whatever" would be completely OOC.

@flav' yh but the witches are by nature one dimensional characters they fit perfectly in the area where all great kids movie villains are. They’re pretty much 2D character wise but their personality and chemistry makes up for it. You’re not meant to feel bad for them or see them cry or genuinely upset. It simply ruins the effect they have. Her going ape because her sisters disappear is far more in character. It’d show she cares for her sisters without compromising her evil no cares given demeanour and her using all that power out of anger for his sisters disappearing and it destroying her as well would have been a neat ending. There’s a reason so many people don’t like the ending.

@La Donké Well I guess we just have to agree to disagree. I don't like one dimensional characters in general - at all. Not even in kids movies. It's stupid and underestimating kids I think. And we see Winifreds character differently as well, but that's fine. I feel that her going nuts and raging out wouldn't make any sense here (normally it would be a different story, lol) because the enemy wasn't guilty for her loss. The only person who was responsible for their demise was Winifred herself. So, considering the circumstances it's easy to understand this kind of reaction. There was nobody she could be angry to so - the feeling that is left is sorrow - and desperation.

It didn't bother me so much that Winnifred was upset about losing her sisters, but what bothered me was that it manifested itself as her being sad, and not her being very angry. Throughout both movies she has an anger problem, so why this is the moment that doesn't come out was weird to me. Not enough to spoil the movie but definitely weird

“just be evil babe” my thoughts exactly😭it was such a weird switch-up for winifred to suddenly become not-evil at the end?? in the original, part of the fun of the sanderson sisters was how they were goofy, but also felt like a genuine threat. they killed and kidnapped children in the first movie whereas here their evil antics felt so downplayed, and for what🥲you guys completely embodied my reaction to the ending. it was a disappointing cop-out but overall still an enjoyable watch (if not for the irresistible charm of the 3 leads and their fantastic chemistry!)

@SomethingSpectacular i guess it more bothered me because the characterization of winnie felt so different- in the first movie she seems content with taking max’s life for herself even as her sisters are dying/disappearing, and she comes off as more selfish and uncaring for her sisters. i know they definitely played up the sisterly bond in the sequel and made a point to emphasize how much sarah and mary meant to winifred, so i can see where some people would enjoy the ending more. it just felt like a drastic change and even a disservice to her character in the first movie in my opinion. don’t get me wrong tho, i still thoroughly enjoyed the sequel!

Honestly its like they pulled the 3 girls from some Live Action Disney Channel and they were acting like there was supposed to be a laughtrack to force us to think what they're doing is funny or hide the subpar acting. Those 3 screamed "I was dragged into a highschool play I had no interest in but I have to phone it in cuz my parents are watching". (TBH I had the same problem with the adult dude too, like.....for being a stan....he really was too.....jovial, he too feel into the "Disney Channel" acting trope) ......I'm pretty sure they are out there and the I might have seen some....but lord help me I really need the acting range of teens in current movies to not be "Cringe-Fest written by Old People" or "Just really poor acting." Winifred Sanderson is a child killing, witch, who loved mocking Thackery and Emily's parents "Thackery hmm....Don't know...CAT'S got my tongue." over the loss of their children, she had no remorse FOR sucking the life out of Emily, turned Thackery into a cat cursing him to live a long life full of guilt over not saving his sister, MOCKING Thackery over not saving his sister "Thou will fail to save thy friends, just as thou failed to save thy SISTER!" and hell she was even willing to go so far as to save HERSELF screw her sisters and eat up Max. It, and two other people wearing their costumes, are the two references that we have of their characters from the 1st film. @KatTeresa I looked up the people who played Max's parents in the original. Charles Rocket (Max's dad) is the only one who passed and that was in 2005. The one playing Max's mom, her name is Stephanie Faracy and she is very much still alive. She is in a new show called Uncoupled.

I just watched this and cried so hard at the ending. I just wanted the sisters to win and go on eating children forever. I didn’t think it would hit me as hard as it did, but I guess the first movie impacted me more than I thought.

So, I took it as since Becca was going to the woods regularly before she became 16, she was charging herself up, so when she did get her powers on her birthday, there was already something to work with. Also, she was born a witch, just like Winifred.

They need a Synders cut (or dare I say “Sanderson”) in the end when like you both were originally thinking it was a bait and switch with Winnie totally acting sad and sorry as a trick to get the book back then of course she does there’s a nice end battle (where the new kid uses her magic) and the book ends up choosing her (it has to end up that way, unfortunately) but at least give the Sanderson sisters the dignity of one last trap C’MON!!

THANK YOU for mentioning Billy sounding so differently. It took me out of the movie every single time.

And yeah, I didm't adore how much they basically upskirted Sarah Jessica Parker repeatedly.

"There's a tiny woman trapped in that box," is my favorite line, I think, closely followed by, "It's the face of a baby - a newborn!"

But the power of friendship totally derailed the later half. I totally called the Book twist though, and I loved calling that. The three people I was watching with were like, "Noooooo." Realizing the book was trying to protect them by abandoning them was something I didn't call, though.

So I'm fine with her sisters being what she treasured most, but the way they had her react. Winnie isn't really the type to recognize her mistakes and she's full of rage. She more likely would have gone on a rampage with the kids finding the uniting spell and hoping it would send her away so she didn't kill them.

I don't know if it was to keep that 90's happy ending vibe or because of some studio/executive meddling but yeah... Lost a lot of points with that "mercy kill" at the end.

I think why the ending is so lacking is because the story doesn't follow the message. If it were about having a choice when you were robbed of one, wouldn't Billy be the one to be restored? He was just a random village boy who's been used as a puppet for centuries by the sisters, who chose murder. It would have been Actually wholesome if the kids helped Billy kill the sisters, then let him choose what he wants to do, maybe even a cute epilogue of showing him around modernity and letting him live a life he didn't get to have!

Personally, I thought the film was fine, but the original is still superior. I thought the young girls, who played the young Sanderson Sisters were great. A film or series around them, when they’re young, would’ve been better imo. Honestly, I would’ve enjoyed the film more, if they had more time in the film, but it’s what it is. Read recently, that preproduction on Hocus Pocus 3 is already underway. Have no idea what to expect, if it comes to fruition, but clearly there’s an idea. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. 😂👏🏼

Honestly, the movie was better than I thought it would be. Definitely a C that gets bumped up to a solid B for me because you can tell the 3 witches are having SO much fun and are so excited to be back in these roles. Will watch it in the guture just for them.

Yup this was my main issue with it as well. They pulled a maleficent/Cruella move and tried to make evil characters just misunderstood. I actually thought that was the plan initially of the movie, then when Gilbert said that exact point it made me think that wasn't the route they were going. But alas they went there, and it to me ruins the film for me. What a shame.

The only issues I had with the movie were things that conflicted with the original film. For example, showing the OG movie in that one scene, kind of makes you question what kind of universe is this in? If the film itself is supposed to be real events, how can people watch it on film? Also, if the shop owner was a boy in 1993, he wouldn't have been able to witness the Sanderson sisters as technically he should have been one of the many children marching to their house. And why would he really know all the things that happened that night on Halloween in 1993 (not like he was there to witness everything either)? Also, a witch gave the Sanderson sisters the book, yet in the OG film Alison read that it was given to her by the Devil himself.

The original is my #2 all time favorite Halloween movie. Like literally it is pretty much guaranteed that I will watch it at least 4-6 times every October. So when I saw this one, I thought it was good, but I also couldn’t help but feel a tiny tiny bit underwhelmed. Like this was ok, but it had the potential to be great in my opinion.

The only characters in this movie I liked were the sisters and Mary’s Roombas. I was also rooting for the sisters in the entire movie and I think it would’ve been better if they performed the spell and didn’t die so they just became all powerful and took over Salem.

Beyond our beloved Sanderson sister and whatever that ending was, I so glad that Doug Jones get to reprise Billy Butcherson, the iconic roll that kind of rocketed his career so he has been all the beloved lanky and super done up in practical effects characters of the past 30 years. Can we talk about how in the costume/look-alike contest Kornbread Jeté, Ginger Minj and Kahmora Hall are there, like I love that!!

I really agree with the criticism that basically none of the other core character/actors had anywhere near the same energy at the 3 witches. In the original, the kids were just as over the top in energy as the trio, so it worked. This just seems super unbalanced in terms of where your attention should go.

I always think it's bizarre that all of these studios are like "these people seem to like the villains in these movies for some reason, despite the fact that they're torturing and killing people. Let's capitalize on that by taking away an inherent part of that and making them less evil and more sympathetic!"
I don't want my villains to have redemption arcs, I want them to be gloriously sinister, to the very bitter end!
