Quand c'est fini ça recommence

N-i, ni, ni
Ça recommence
Tous les juke-boxes
À pleins tuyaux
Poussent la romance
Après le fox
Le boléro
Chanson sirop
Dans tout Puteaux
On s'croirait à Rio, voyons!
Et les nanas
Avec leur gars
En fin d'semaine
Sur le comptoir
S'offrent un p'tit noir
Contre une rengaine
Écoute-moi ça
J'suis Sinatra
Et toi Marlène
Amour bidon
C'est pour vingt ronds
Broadway qui tourne en rond
Quand c'est fini
N-i, ni, ni
Ça recommence
À la loterie
Chacun s'en va
Tenter sa chance
Bravo Margot
T'as le gros lot
Quelle bombance!
N-i, ni, ni
Ça recommence
Un jour j'te plais
Puis j'te déplais
Et tu m'balances
Rire ou chagrin
C'est tout ou rien
Quelle cadence!
Mais à l'instant
Où j'fiche le camp
Tu m'rattrapes au tournant!
Amour à moi
L'amour c'est ça
Ou gai ou triste
Quand tu es là
Entre mes bras
Plus rien n'existe
C'est qu'du décor
Mais j'veux encore
Mon tour de piste
Quand c'est fini
N-i, ni, ni
Ça fait ça pour la vie!
Chevaux de bois
Emportez-moi
Au ciel en fête
Cent mille étoiles
Ouvrent le bal
Dans nos mirettes
Au grand galop
Filons là-haut
Vers la comète
C'est beau la Terre
Même à l'envers
Y aura toujours
D'la belle amour
Et du ciel bleu
Dans tous les yeux!
The lyrics of Léo Ferré's song "Quand c'est fini ça recommence" depict various aspects of love and life. The song starts by describing how, when something ends, it often begins again. Jukeboxes play romantic songs, and after a fox trot, the bolero dance resumes. The lyrics mention how in Puteaux, a town in France, it feels like being in Rio, emphasizing the liveliness and energy of the atmosphere.
The song then moves on to portray different scenarios involving love. It describes couples enjoying their weekend moments, having a "petit noir" (a small black coffee) while listening to a popular tune. The lyrics mention famous icons such as Frank Sinatra and Marlène Dietrich, highlighting the idea of a false and shallow love. Broadway is depicted as turning in circles, suggesting a repetitive and monotonous existence.
The song also portrays the excitement of taking chances, comparing it to a lottery. Each person tries their luck, and Margot is praised for winning the jackpot. The lyrics illustrate the celebration and indulgence that follows, with sparkling wine being mentioned as a symbol of enjoyment and luxury.
There is also a sense of loneliness and despair depicted in the song, with references to those who have been disappointed by life. They queue up to alleviate their boredom and find temporary distractions. The imagery of breaking pipes represents their attempt to escape their heartaches, aiming randomly with the hope of finding some solace.
The song then returns to the cycle of love, expressing how relationships can fluctuate from attraction to rejection and back again. The lyrics describe a continuous dance between laughter and sadness, with each encounter being a complete experience. Even when one tries to leave, they are quickly caught up again, suggesting the complex and intertwined nature of love.
Ultimately, the song conveys that love is both joyful and heartbreaking, and regardless of its ups and downs, it is an essential part of life. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing for another chance, expressing a desire to have one more turn on the stage of love.

* "Il tourne le manège !
...
.....Quand c'est fini Ami-Amie...
.....Ça recommence?
.... Ou tu m'balances ?
.... Toi tu me plais,
..... Moi j'te replay?
...
.... Nous étions Z'amis : quelle blague!
.... Nous étions Amants : quelle joie !
.... Puis nous fûmes ennemis: c'est la vie...
.... Ah! tous ces écrits-vains...
....
.... Puis un "Beau jour" (sic) j't'ai pu vu!
.... J'avais perdu Muse et Voyelle :
.... Oui des écrans tu avais disparu !
.... Et à quoi bon te chercher
.... Puisque, sans doute, ton choix c'était?
...
.... Alors pour de moi, me venger,
.... De vanités en billevesées,
.... Je néantisais, pire je galvaudais.
.... Oui j'ai connu des filles de "mauvaises vies"
.... Tu sais, celles que Vénus à néant tire...
....
.... Donc il était à Néantie...
.... Et là, un jour (qu'il soit béni!)
.... Une âmie, au débotté, m'a dit,
.... Tu sais quoi Martini ?
.... Zustin: reviens envie:
.... Le manège est reparti !"
