Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

In 細川たかし's song 女のしぐれ, the first verse questions whether the reason for tears is due to the falling rain or the weight of love. The singer goes on to describe a woman who is loved to the point of death, melting and disheveled with her black hair, in the nightly hot spring town. The second verse describes the hot spring flowers, which bloom and fall overnight. Although there should be no lingering emotions, everything is colored by women, and the separation from someone else in the morning is painful. The final verse admits that there is love that floats and fades away, and there is love that, if cut, causes pain. The singer does not want to hear when that love will come, and simply offers an umbrella to the person they love. The song is set in the same hot spring town mentioned in the first verse, where the sound of women weeping (しぐれ) can be heard echoing throughout the night.
