Despite his short life, his rapid pace of composition resulted in more than 800 works of virtually every Western classical genre of his time. Many of these compositions are acknowledged as pinnacles of the symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral repertoire. Mozart is widely regarded as among the greatest composers in the history of Western music, with his music admired for its "melodic beauty, its formal elegance and its richness of harmony and texture".
Born in Salzburg, then in the Holy Roman Empire and currently in Austria, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. His father took him on a grand tour of Europe and then three trips to Italy. At 17, he was a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position.
While visiting Vienna in 1781, Mozart was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He stayed in Vienna, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years there, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas. His Requiem was largely unfinished by the time of his death at the age of 35, the circumstances of which are uncertain and much mythologized.

Mozart was ask’d by his sister-in-Law (and former lover...) Aloysia Weber to compose an aria suitable to her extraordinarily high tessitura sometime early in June of 1783 for an upcoming Vienese production of Anfossi’s comic opera Il Curioso Indescreto (premier’d Dec 1777, Rome, Teatro Delle Dame); she was to play Clorinda, the fiancé of the Marchese Calandrano (who himself is the subject of the opera) and suggested a re-setting of Act 2 scene 7 (the Libretto has been ascrib’d to Giovanni Bertati)
Here is the text that M. set for his sister-in-law: it was deliver’d to her on 20 June 1783 (‘Non che no sei capace’, K. 419 - aria for Soprano in C-major, scor’d for strings, 2 oboi, 2 corni, 2 trombe e Tympani)
CLORINDA (Act II scene vii).
‘No Che non se capace !! Di Cortesia d’Onore e vanti a torto un coro...Ch’orde d’Amor per me. Vanne ! T’aborro, ingrato ! E piu me stesso aborro che t’ho un istante Amato, che sospira per te !’
(‘No, you are incapable either of Courtesy or Honour—you falsely boast of an heart that burns only for me ! Get lost, you ingrate, I hate your guts ! Even more than my hatred of you is my own disgust of myself when I think I once lov’d you — from the very moment I sigh’d for love of you !)
SYNOPSIS of the Opera IL CURIOSO INDESCRETO
Marchese Calandrano loves nothing more than prying into other people’s affairs - he is engag’d to Clorinda & wants to test her fidelity by hiring one of his friends to seduce her (Ripaverde, who is himself engag’d to Calandrano’s niece Emilia); the trouble starts when Ripaverde falls in love with Clorinda; Aurelio is sent to console Emilia who falls in love with him (as does Prospero - who is Clorinda’s majordomo, who falls in love with Serpina, her maid); all ends well for the 3 new happy couples - except poor old Calandrano who’s the odd man out - which should teach him not to play games when it comes to love !

some parts of this slightly remind me a little of the finale to act 1 in the seraglio opera
