Howard’s great strength as a composer is his ability to capture the emotional truth and beauty of J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision, but also its darkness... and its soul. ❡ Special thanks to Enya, Roma and Nicky Ryan for their inspired work and passionate belief in this project. ❡ I am extremely grateful for the unfailing support of Suzana Perić, Nancy Allen, Michael Tremante and John Kurlander—whose professionalism and good humor have made this recording such an enjoyable experience. ❡ And, finally, many thanks to Paul Broucek of New Line Cinema, for making it all happen. —ᴘᴇᴛᴇʀ ᴊᴀᴄᴋsᴏɴ, Director
ɪ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ɴᴏᴛ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀᴘᴘʀᴏᴀᴄʜᴇᴅ ᴀ ᴡᴏʀᴋ ᴏғ ᴛʜɪs sᴄᴏᴘᴇ without great collaborations. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh have led me on this journey through Middle Earth. They lit the dark corners of Tolkien’s world and revealed to me its secrets and mythology. Whether in the bright sunlight and snow of Caradhras or the pitch black of Moria, I was able to follow their path. ❡ At times I must admit I felt like Frodo with the burden of The Ring in my vest pocket, but page by page, then note by note I was able to uncover Tolkien’s complex world. ❡ Special thanks to Philippa Boyens who created so many of the lyrics and authored poems for the film that were translated into Elvish, Dwarvish, Black Speech and Adunaic. ❡ The major groundwork for this piece was done in New Zealand. Inspired by its natural beauty and encouraged by the wonderfully enthusiastic New Zealand Symphony, I set off on my journey. The London Philharmonic Orchestra has been a part of my musical life now for 15 years and I thank them for their inspired performance. —ʜᴏᴡᴀʀᴅ sʜᴏʀᴇ, Composer (c) info from the booklet

The Ringspell...
Translation:
The Seer Speaks...
Out of the Black Years
come the worlds
the Herald of Death
Listen -- it speaks to
those who were not born to die
The Ringspell...
