jab chhaye meraa jadu, koi bachh naa paye hai
phulo kee narmee hu mai, sholo kee garmee hu mai
tufano kee halchal hu, hawaon kaa aanchal hu mai
jo dhunde woh paye, phir bhee hath naa aaye
kabhee mai raj chupatee hu, kabhee khud raj ban jatee hu
dil tute aur sath chhute, phir bhee too pichhe aaye
The song Jab Chhaye Mera Jadoo, rendered by legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle, is a beautiful expression of the powerful impact of love. The lyrics describe the magic created by the singer's love, which leaves no one untouched - once it spreads, even the strongest are unable to escape it.
The singer describes herself as embodying contradictory elements - the softness of flowers and the heat of flames, the turbulence of storms and the soothing touch of breeze. She is elusive, defying those who seek to find her, yet her presence is undeniable, like a feeling you can't shake off. She adopts different masks, sometimes playing the role of someone who hides her pain, while at other times, she embraces her pain as if it were a form of sovereignty. In the face of heartbreak and abandonment, she's aware that all she has left is her own determination.
The song's beautiful melody and poetic lyrics touch deeply on the many nuances of love and its effect on the human psyche. Asha Bhosle's rendition is exquisite, adding an almost mystical touch to the song.
