She was the younger sister of another popular Iranian female singer, Hayedeh. Mahasti's voice was discovered by maestro Parviz Yahaghi, a distinguished Iranian composer and violinist. She was amongst a rare group of singers who "started" their careers on the prestigious Persian traditional music radio program Gol hâ ye Rangârang( گلهای رنگارنگ), in 1963 with the song "Ân ke Delam Râ Borde Xodâyâ"(Persian -آنكه دلم را برده خدایا) composed and arranged by maestro Parviz Yahaghi with lyrics from Bijan Taraghi. She has worked with some of the most famous Iranian composers, including Parviz Yahaghi, Habibollah Badiei, Homayoon Khorram, Asadollah Malek, Anooshiravan Rohani, Jahanbakhsh Pazooki, Hasan Shamaeizadeh, Mohammad Heidari, Jamshid Sheibani, Sadegh Nojooki, and Manoochehr Cheshmazar as well as some younger composers such as Bijan Mortazavi, Faramarz Aasef, Mehrdad Asemani, and Shadmehr Aghili.

Delam, by Mahasti, is a powerful song that expresses deep emotion and inner turmoil. The verses express a desire to escape from oneself, to find a sense of belonging, and to be understood by others. The lyrics are full of paradoxes and contradictions, which reflect the complexity and ambiguity of the singer’s thoughts and feelings.
The first verse expresses the desire to be mad (delam khaast agar divaangi kardam), to become a stranger to oneself (delam khaast ze khod bigaangaai kardam). This suggests a desire for liberation from oneself, from one’s own limitations and fears. The second verse expresses a sense of betrayal and disappointment in others (agar ke etemad cheshm baste be khasm-khaanegi kardam delam khaast). The singer feels that she cannot trust anyone, that she is alone and misunderstood.
The chorus repeats the first two verses, emphasizing the singer's desperation and longing for a different life.
