Despite his short life, his rapid pace of composition resulted in more than 800 works of virtually every Western classical genre of his time. Many of these compositions are acknowledged as pinnacles of the symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral repertoire. Mozart is widely regarded as among the greatest composers in the history of Western music, with his music admired for its "melodic beauty, its formal elegance and its richness of harmony and texture".
Born in Salzburg, then in the Holy Roman Empire and currently in Austria, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. His father took him on a grand tour of Europe and then three trips to Italy. At 17, he was a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position.
While visiting Vienna in 1781, Mozart was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He stayed in Vienna, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years there, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas. His Requiem was largely unfinished by the time of his death at the age of 35, the circumstances of which are uncertain and much mythologized.

Even if the attribution of these to Mozart is circumstantial, I'd like to live in a world where Mozart transcribed my favourite Bach fugue (Contrapunctus VIII), and I want it to stay that way.
@fdarchives_
maybe i dont understand your statement but Mozart transcribed bach pieces from WTC 2. Mozart, von Sweiten, and others would gather to study Bachs material in vienna. Surprised Johann Cristian Bach didn't provide Mozart more of his fathers manuscripts in London..or maybe he did. So many late Mozart works draw from JSB. and later Beethoven in how Mozart used counterpoint as a tool to build drama

First of all, thank you, the uploader/creator of this “clip”, as well as to the performers. It’s truly amazing sometimes what YouTube has in store for me. I was listening to the six fugues of K.405, wonderfully performed by Phantasm (viol consort), and I got curious to check out other versions of it, and that is how I landed on this one. So glad to experience Mozart’s admiration for Bach, “in action”. I myself did study the piano, so I am well familiar to these fugues on the keyboard instruments, but fugues on the string ensembles have their own charms, for sure.
@scottmunson2917
If these aren't by Mozart, then it was someone of a similar genius. The adagios are so hauntingly beautiful.
@davidbruce7244
This is wonderful, thank you very much. I have been looking at a number of Bach fugues recently including the d-sharp minor and I have been very unhappy with the way high profile big record label celebrity pianists play them. They seem to be too dry or strident or percussive- one does not feel the dialogue in the parts or the richness of the harmonies that results. As someone who has sung highly contrapuntal music in church choirs such an approach seemed misplaced. Whether they are Mozart's or not, this makes much more sense. Who knows they could be Mendelssohn's. Beethoven also subscribed some fugues. Either way to hear them this way is most helpful, as well as giving pleasure in their own right.
@matiasnorenamuriel7069
I was just looking for the BWV 526 yesterday, so many thanks! Too bad this rendition is kinda slow though.
@SPscorevideos
The Fugue? It's the most common speed, it would be almost impossibile to play it faster on organ. I once heard a version for vioilin, oboe and continuo (I think by Hienz Holliger), and that was actually faster.
@matiasnorenamuriel7069
Stefano Paparozzi I was actually thinking about the London Baroque version. It's a great remark you make about the speed played on the organ, but if we're going to make a somehow new interpretation in a string trio format, might as well give more impetus you know, take advantage of the possibilities of the strings.
@SPscorevideos
@Matias Noreña I'm listening to it on Spotify right now: I think if you go so fast, you really risk to destroy the second theme with the 16th. As a matter of fact, they have to play that as a triplet... I'm also surprised that they don't play really fast the first movement (which is actually a Vivace).
@OrKestrAlan
Very music a master piece thanks.
