He spent a long part of his childhood in the café which his parents owned, where he learned work jargon and slang. At the age of 14 he signed up to the conservatoire de musique de Toulouse and to a dramatic arts institute. In the mean time, he set up his first band of 4 musicians in his own name, with whom he played at events throughout the region. In 1957, he was snapped up by Eddie Barclay who signed him on. It was in the studio of Barclay where he met his future wife, Simone Mazaltarim.
In 1958 Perret carried on touring round Parisian cabaret bars and crossed France and Africa as a part of the American group, The Platters. In Novemeber that year, a pleurisy forced him to take two years off in a sanatorium.
A master of the subtleties of the French language and French slang (he even rewrote some of Jean de La Fontaine's fables), his songs are often cheeky (for example Le zizi (The willy)) , asking questions in a seemingly naive child's tone, but has written more serious political songs, such as La bête est revenue, La petite kurde, Vert de Colère ou Lily.
Plein la poire

En allant à la gare
Cette magnifique poupée troussée
Hardiment me déclare
Tendez-moi vos bras s'il vous plait
Et faites fissa
Et moi je croyais qu'elle disait
Faites-moi vite ca
Mon premier voyage à Paris
Me remplit d'allégresse
Qui me dit tu n'as pas l'air ravi
De ton voyage d'affaires
Je dis hélas s'il n'y avait eu
Que des hommes comme toi
Il cru que j'y disais j'ai vu
Qu'des cons comme toi
Et j'en ai pris plein la poire
The song "Plein la poire" talks about the singer's various miscommunications and misunderstandings that have resulted in him being made a fool of or "taken for a ride". The first verse tells of a "magnificent skewered doll" who says "hold me in your arms, please" but the singer misunderstands and thinks she's saying "do it to me quickly" so he gets "taken for a ride" and ends up getting hurt.
The second verse talks about the singer's first trip to Paris and how he takes a taxi to the "Quai de la Redoute". The taxi driver misunderstands the address and the singer misunderstands the driver's question, resulting in another miscommunication and the singer getting "taken for a ride" again.
The rest of the verses follow a similar pattern of misunderstanding and miscommunication, resulting in the singer getting "taken for a ride" and getting hurt. The song ends with the singer returning home and being disappointed with the people there as well.
Overall, the song is a humorous take on miscommunication and how it can lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings.
