Starting in 1939 he appeared in more than 60 films, and since 1943 he recorded about 350 songs. Thanks to his performance in the movie "Tizoc", he was awarded the Silver Bear of the Berlin International Film Festival for Best Actor and the Golden Globe at Hollywood, for the Best Actor in a Leading Role, awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at Hollywood.

The song El Fronterizo by Pedro Infante is about a man who wishes he had the belongings and status of someone else. The singer sings about the things he wishes he had to impress the woman he loves. First, he wishes he had an airplane to fly to the woman he loves and take her on a ride. He then wishes he was a rich man so he could buy her many things. He also wishes he was a successful merchant and could provide for her by making a lot of money. Finally, he wishes he was a General so he could be well-dressed and not be looked down upon by others who are more presumptuous. But the singer acknowledges that he can only sing about these wishes and cannot actually attain them. This last line possibly reflects a sense of resignation and acceptance of his current station in life.
