El Papelerito
Pedro Infante Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
vas naciendo a la vida
existencia marcada
por la fatalidad.
Vas vendiendo los diarios
con tu pureza del alma
no se puede ser malo
Tu refugio es la calle
y tu manto la noche
y tu canto de niño
las noticias señor
Muchachito que apenas
vas naciendo a la vida
Dios te marque el sendero
de un camino mejor.
In Pedro Infante's song "El Papelerito," the lyrics tell the story of a young boy who has barely entered into the world but already faces the harsh reality of life. The boy sells newspapers to make a living, and while he is still innocent, his existence is marked by fate. Despite facing these challenges at such a young age, the boy has remained pure of heart and with an unbreakable spirit. The city streets are his refuge, and he seeks comfort in the dark of night. As he goes about his business selling papers, the boy uses his sweet voice to share the news with his customers.
The lyrics evoke a sense of pity for this child, who stands on the edge of the world, still so new and full of possibilities. God is asked to intervene and show the boy a better path to follow, an alternative to the life of poverty and hardship he has been dealt. The song is a heartbreaking reminder of how society can fail its most vulnerable citizens, yet it also speaks to the human spirit's resilience and our ability to find joy and hope even in the darkest of circumstances.
